Draft a complete zone
Open System → DNS zones with dns.manage, select the customer where applicable and create the normalised zone. Record names, type, value, TTL and optional priority are validated by DNS policy. Supported record shapes include A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, CAA, NS and SRV under their type rules. Conflicting records are rejected.
Saving/editing/removing a record increments the local revision and marks the zone draft. Nothing is live merely because it appears in this table. Customer DNS controls additionally require their own domains.view/manage scope and zone ownership.
Assign a provider
Choose an enabled, successfully tested DNS provider connection backed by a reviewed API-1 DnsModule. No particular DNS provider is proven by the existence of the generic contract. Cloudflare Registrar is a registrar, not a bundled Cloudflare DNS publisher. Import or enter the entire existing remote zone before choosing a full-snapshot publisher; missing remote MX/TXT/provider records must not be accidentally removed.
Publish explicitly
The publisher receives zone ID/name, exact revision, records and idempotency_key = dns:<zone-id>:<revision>. A zone lock prevents concurrent application publishes. Success marks the submitted published revision; edits that occurred during the request keep the newer draft separate. A timeout or unconfirmed provider response preserves the draft and records an error rather than a false success.
Provider acceptance is not worldwide propagation or DNSSEC readiness. Inspect authoritative DNS before retrying an uncertain result. The module must preserve required provider-managed records and honour provider-specific record restrictions.
Export and recover
Export produces a text zone representation of the local record set. Retain it with your backup and compare it with the actual authoritative provider before a migration. Export does not change delegation. If Publish is missing or denied, check zone ownership, staff/customer permission, assigned connection, enabled module and its last successful test.
